Gizomodo.com writes that more details have emerged on Sony's new PlayStation Portable. The PSP will have twin processors (one for media, the other 3D graphics), 8MB of RAM, and play special 1.8 gigabyte "Universal Media Discs." The PSP will also support playback of MPEG4 video files, and Sony says they'll be able to fit up to two hours of video on a UMD. But probably the most exciting about the PSP is that it'll have built-in WiFi for head-to-head competition with other PSP owners.

I came accross an old article about an Intel PVP! About one year ago they were quietly working on a new category of consumer electronics, their goal was to take the idea to OEMs and let them run with it. This way Intel could create a new market for which they would supply the hardware. The target tech specs include an Intel XScale processor, a 20GB hard drive, a USB 2.0 interface, a four-inch LCD running at a suggested 320 x 240 resolution, and a rechargeable battery.

Will personal video players replace MP3 players? Bill Howard thinks it's time for electronics manufacturers to concede that iPod has won that war, and move onto the next battleground: portable video players like the Archos AV 320, which have large hard drives and small LCD screens for watching movies and TV shows while on the go. There's still time for somebody to come out with a category-defining personal video player. But if history is any guide, Apple will probably come out with a killer video iPod next year and dominate that field as well...
